Path of Exile
« on: January 23, 2013, 05:48:45 PM »

Quote
Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. We're a small independent team of hardcore gamers based in New Zealand and have created Path of Exile as the game that we'd want to play ourselves. It is designed around a strong barter-based online item economy, deep character customisation, competitive PvP and ladder races. The game is completely free and will never be "pay to win". Path of Exile is currently in Closed Beta and will enter Open Beta on January 23, 2013.

A few things about this short description:
- Open beta started January 23, 2013
- 'The game is completely free and will never be "pay to win"'.
- It's like Diablo III but... Good...

I've been waiting the Open Beta for months. Played on a friend account meanwhile. Amazing game if I'm honest.

You really should check out this game... What are you waiting for? GO!

The game seems to be getting a lot of support from players disappointed with Diablo 3. That's a very good sign of things to come. And that skill tree is a thing of beauty, so damn complex :)

Yeah. The hardcore gamers will love this game. Diablo III missed on that. For more casual gaming, Torchlight II is the game!

The skill tree was, literally, the first thing that I saw about the game and made me want to play it. It's really awesome. You can just do whatever you want. Want more crit chance? Enter that branch. Want more firepower? Put some points that way. You can adapt to your way of playing. Can't find two players with the same talent tree. And that gets even better with the PvP part of all this.

Interesting, I might give this game a shot. I didn't buy diablo 3 when I found out it wasn't even being managed by the same developer, so of course it was doomed to fail.

Looking good, I haven't played any other Diablo besides Diablo III , and didn't like it much.. maybe because everyone says it was the worst? I don't know.
Let's see if this game gets my interest

If you haven't played Diablo II, you're missing out. Fantastic game. You can get the game and all of it's expansions for $20 now, pick it up when you get the chance. :)

There is still no launch date but they expect to release the game later this year.

For those who haven't watched yet, Path of Exile had the privilege to be the first game to be featured on our "Action Play" show: Click here to watch it!

Now, two months into the open beta, my thoughts:
The game looks beautiful. Nice graphics that neither bore you nor make you blind.
The game performs nicely. Works on a large variety of computer systems. The servers are not the best though.
The gameplay is not game changer. The ol'standart you're used to from other games like Diablo and Torchlight.
The main strength are the characters and the ability to customize them. Not their aesthetic but their stats. You need to be well prepared and know the limits of your character. How to attack, when to retreat. You'll hardly find someone exactly like you, although, I bet someone will find a way to create "the perfect" character that every newbie will follow.

This as the potential to be one of (if not the best) F2P game of 2013.

POE is fantastic. I still play it, and I can't say that about too many games these days lol.

Tril is right, it's hard to find a game that you play for days and days just because you like it.I've been playing it for quite a while with a couple of friends, and after they quit I still played it and I still log in every once in a while.
Another big + that the game has is the comunity and the economy.Because of the steep learning courve the game has you don't find trolls or flamers that often and with the lack of gold, the game ensures that no 3rd party websites come in and sell gold to players.
Overall is one of the best RPGs of all times in my charts (Diablo II still is the first one IMO)

To be honest I've read trough the patch notes and. . .wow.Even more dificult that before. . . well, that's great!
I can't actually play above the standard league but it's something that not many games dare to do nowadays and on the contrary they tend to make games easier to have a broader range in their players.+1 to Grinding Gear Games for this great piece of update for the hardcore gamers out there.

Once again, couldn't agree more... They seem to be everything we want a company to be! :D
