Darkness 2 creators present F2P TPS Warframe

Digital Extremes is another studio jumping aboard the F2P wagon. The makers of The Darkness II and Dark Sector just announced a new free-to-play online third-person shooter called Warframe. Try not to confuse it with Warface, another high-profile multiplayer FPS from Crytek.

Warframe is a co-op shooter that is based on an old Digital Extremes concept, described as a mix of high-tech machine-gun Ninjas set in a far-future that blends Manga and Dune. Sounds good to us, especially seeing that the artwork seems to take some lessons from Dark Sector.

Warframe’s story revolves around the conflict between two alien races, the Tenno and the Grineer. Players step into the shoes – or should we say exoskeletons – of four Tenno soldiers and face the Grineer slavers. We sense a mix of Dark Sector and Gears of War, but we’ll have to wait for the first gameplay trailer. Meanwhile, here’s a first look trailer to introduce you to the setting.

Warframe is scheduled for Winter 2012 so be sure to reserve your alias today in the official website.
