Surprise! Brink is now free-to-play on Steam

Before Dirty Bomb, there was Brink. Splash Damage's first-person shooter was a clear case of unfulfilled potential since it launched in 2011. All these years never resulted in any massive improvements or a large playerbase, but switching Brink to free-to-play today without any kind of proper announcement was baffling. I mean, the official statement could be written on a stamp, for crying out loud:

“BRINK is Now Free to Play on Steam! You decide the combat role you want to assume in the world of Brink as you fight to save yourself and mankind's last refuge!”

Wow, that is a lot of information, guys! What about the players that purchased the game before, any compensations? And is Brink going to receive any kind of updates from now on? Can I scratch my nose using my elbow? All this and more was left unanswered.

Well, Brink is now free-to-play on Steam and players are starting to notice it and giving it a try. Let's see where the mixed to negative reviews sit in a few days and if Brink has any future or is just some sort of abandonware.
