Valve announces Artifact: The DOTA card game, Hearthstone scoffs

Artifact: The DOTA card game

Valve has just announced a new game and that is, by itself, a reason for celebration. However, it turns out that Artifact: The DOTA card game isn't the new Valve game that most of you are desperately waiting for. In fact, judging by the downvote/upvote ration from the teaser trailer, everyone is hating on it. Don't let that discourage you though, if you're a fan of CCGs and also like DOTA quite a bit. Digital card games are getting quite a bit of hate right now as everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon – there's GWENT, The Elder Scrolls, and obviously the big one, Blizzard's Hearthstone.

The little information there is so far on Artifact: The DOTA card game mentions a 2018 release. It will feature three boards (aka lanes), as well as creeps and barrack building. You can naturally count with a vast selection of creatures and spells from the DOTA universe.

It will be fun to see just how Artifact: The DOTA card game will fare next to Hearthstone, the number one digital CCG. There are a few heavy-hitters (GWENT) and underdogs (Shadowverse, Faeria), but this is the big duel. Now all that it takes is for Valve to create a DOTA MMORPG to battle World of Warcraft and make it full circle: we have Artifact vs. Hearthstone and DOTA 2 vs. Heroes of the Storm.

Now that we think of it, we would prefer Half-Life 3, Portal 3 or Left 4 Dead 3 any day of the week, but that's us. How about you?
