News:

Guild Wars 2 is now free-to-play
NCsoft is definitely going to have a big end of 2015. As if Blade and Soul and WildStar weren’t enough, Guild Wars 2 is now also free to play. It’s like Christmas came early! NCsoft and ArenaNet have just released the core Guild Wars 2 for free, so everyone is now able to download the game and play it without any costs. While there are some limitations on free accounts, such as character slots, it’s nothing that will prevent you from enjoying the game. However, if you enjoy Guild Wars 2 so much, you’ll probably be interested in buying the Heart of Thorns expansion pack, which releases on October 23, and that is where the studio is hoping this decision pays off. Sounds like a great deal to us – you’re getting a full game for free and one of the best MMORPGs out there, instead of the usual limited trial up to level X that games such as World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV offer.

LawBreakers is the new shooter from Cliff Bleszinski
Cliff Bleszinski, the maker of Gears of War, has a new game in the works. LawBreakers was finally revealed and it’s a frantic sci-fi FPS with some cool ideas. LawBreakers was in development under the codename Project Bluestreak and is set in an alternate future where two factions are at war, one trying to uphold the peace and the other is a crime syndicate. The first gameplay trailer was recently released and it reminds us of Unreal Tournament mixed with some Bulletstorm craziness. There’s a grappling hook, jetpacks, rocket jumping, teleporting and a focus on fast movement. Boss Key Productions, the developers, say that this game is all about skill, not kill-streaks. You can already sign up for the alpha at the official website. Nexon is publishing LawBreakers in 2016.

Trion Worlds reveals tactical game Atlas Reactor
Trion Worlds has a lot going on but that didn’t stop the studio from revealing another new game, the tactical Atlas Reactor. As if handling Archeage, Rift, Trove and the upcoming Devilian wasn’t enough, Trion is developing Atlas Reactor, a turn-based tactical game with stylish cel-shaded visuals and a PvP focus. It’s great to see that they didn’t go for the tired MOBA genre, instead focusing on something more akin to XCom or Shadowrun Returns. In this game you’ll choose from a cast of characters called Freelancers and play on simultaneous turns on a timer. Visually this is an intriguing mix of Borderlands and Overwatch, maybe with some Firefall thrown in for good measure. You can sign up for the upcoming alpha already.

Bigpoint's Game of Thrones MMORPG is still in development?
Apparently, Bigpoint’s adaptation of Game of Thrones isn’t quite dead yet. Sure, it’s in development hell but there could still be some hope for this MMO. The last we’ve heard of Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms was in 2012 and the first trailer wasn’t exactly mind-blowing, but we decided to keep our hopes up. Also, being a browser-based game isn’t exactly great for the potential of such an IP. Anyway, Bigpoint is allegedly hiring for the Game of Thrones MMO, so this could mean that the game is still in development. Not too enlightening, but at least now we know it’s not canceled. Probably.

Pokémon-like Moonrise is shutting down by the end of the year
Moonrise, the Pokémon-like game from the makers of State of Decay is virtually canceled. The studio revealed that it was unsustainable to keep it going. We found Moonrise to be an enjoyable little creature battler, but it is going shut down December 31, 2015. Maybe it was a lack of open world exploration or some balance issues that made the players leave, not to return, but the developers are now going to give a lot of goodies for everyone to enjoy it properly before it shuts down. If you were curious about Moonrise, this is the time to try it.

Tribes: Ascend is getting support again
Hi-Rez Studios is bringing back the shooter Tribes: Ascend which was still out there, but kinda not really out there. As in virtually no support. But now it will change. Tribes: Ascend was quite well received when it launched in 2012 but since it wasn’t making money the studio decided to just leave it out there while it worked on SMITE. As you probably know, SMITE turned out to be a huge success and it’s pretty much printing money for the studio. In the end, Hi-Rez has just announced it is going back to the game, creating a new map and some other small changes as well as continuing support, while not expecting to make money out of the game. Sounds perfect to us. Hi-Rez is also working on Paladins, a competitive fantasy shooter.

‘Find the Game’ Quiz

This is an upcoming game that isn’t aimed at casual players. In fact, it’s very difficult to get into but Star Wars Galaxies fans will probably enjoy it. This open world sandbox sci-fi MMO just throws you out there into this harsh world and you’ll have to build, fight and craft your way. The first one to write the answer in the comments will see his name featured in the next Free to Play Unlimited episode.

Most Wanted: Dragomon Hunter

After Aura Kingdom, Dragomon Hunter is another game that Aeria Games is bringing to the west all the way from Taiwan. Dragomon Hunter is developed by X-Legend, a studio that puts out some decent little anime MMORPGs that are a nice distraction and Dragomon Hunter is exactly that. This is something of a Monster Hunter Online lite, where you’ll get to hunt over 100 creatures and use them as mounts. Beta is about to begin this fall and you’ll be able to choose one of four classes: Mercenary, Scout, Mage and Cleric. If you like the anime visuals and the battle and collect gameplay, you should give Dragomon Hunter a try – it won’t take long now.
