MageRealm First Look Gameplay Video

This time we'll be taking a look at a game called MageRealm, a free-to-play 2.5D MMORPG from the makers of League of Angels. This game features some nice artwork, as is usually the case, but the gameplay is extremely familiar and it includes the usual battle rating system, as well as extremely fast leveling up during the first hour.

Innovative… Ground breaking… Nothing like you've ever seen before. These are all things that do not describe MageRealm. MageRealm is another run-of-the-mill cashgrab style browser game that we've all come to know and love (or hate, in most cases). Playing this game gives you a few options, and instead of straight up controlling your character for you like some OTHER browser-based games (looking at you, One Piece Online!), this one at least gives you the option of letting the game play itself for you or if you'd actually like to… you know… be in control.

Character creation was pretty dull. BAM! Look at that, select your class (which is gender locked) and give it a name, and you're on your way! Original Character! There's a short tutorial sequence you must go through, which by the time you're done with it you'll be level 10. It only takes about 5-10 minutes maximum, so you're getting around one and a half levels per minute here! They really want to rush you into some higher level content pretty early on – the little gamer boy inside of me is excited because of the early high level content, but the adult part of me is pretty sure it's because they want you to spend money. I mean, look at those flashy icons!

The gameplay was pretty standard, quests were nothing special. There's quite a few instances you'll go through as soon as you get into the game, but everything was so hectic and happening so quickly I was left incredibly confused! Wha… What's this d-…. What's going on!? DID I JUST TRANSFORM!? It took me about 15 minutes in the game to reach level 15. You do get a pretty neat angel chick named Shadow, not sure why she has such a dark name… but she can make stuff explode! Combat also wanted to be semi-action based, but let's face it… the game can auto-fight better than you can… not auto-fight. You'll probably never use your hotkey. And then… Hey look, wings!

Overall, MageRealm is another browser game that you've seen many many times before, it's becoming a rinse and repeat formula for this sort of game, the art style in the game isn't terrible though, and it's very reminiscent of classic TQ Digital games like Conquer Online, but other than that. I don't see anything here that would keep my interest for longer than a day or two.
