Moonrise First Look Gameplay Video

Moonrise is a Pokémon-like creature battler from Undead Labs, makers of the pretty cool survival horror game State of Decay. With the second game comes a complete change of direction, from a gritty, mature world onto a more colorful and cartoonish universe. Moonrise is an action/adventure MMORPG where you’ll control a Warden tasked with battling savage Lunari creatures, which in fact are Solari transformed by the moonrise. You’ll have to cure the Lunari and recruit them to your team, customizing your Solari and exploring dungeons to find the most rare creatures.

Watcha Playin’? is a FreeMMOStation show where we give you a first look with commentary on the most popular free-to-play MMO games available.

While the battle system does look nice, it is still really disappointing to hear about the lack of exploration/RPG/open-world elements. Or free controlled movement around areas at all, it looks like. I mean, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised; State of Decay does not exactly threaten what DayZ or H1Z1 do in terms of scope or gameplay. Plus this is a mobile game as well. Probably should’ve expected something a bit… “cut down”-feeling. So yeah… darn.

It does look good though. Real good. It’s WAY better than Free Realms looked, which is the last “all ages” fantasy online game I can remember before every one of those decided to rip off and iterate on Minecraft’s aesthetic.

Still, is that enough to get me to check it out on Steam? Well, if Skylent is name-dropping Jade Cocoon, I have to at least check it out. Dang, those games were great, and that studio’s Spectrobes Origins too. Man, what is that studio up to nowadays, I wonder…?

Great. Now I’m definitely gonna end up going down a “Google Rabbit Hole” researching that studio. Goodbye productivity for the next hour 😛
