Project A / Valorant Release Date | When is the Riot Games Project Ares release?

Project A Release Date

Project A is one of Riot Games' ventures into territory that strays from League of Legends. While the digital card game Legends of Runeterra could be considered the first major game coming from the successful studio, there are many other games under development, including an action RPG and the League of Legends fighting game. However, Project A (also known as Project Ares) is a tactical competitive shooter that many players are eagerly expecting. This game, along with the other projects at Riot Games was announced in mid-October 2019, so what do we know about the Project A release date?

When Project A was revealed, it was clearly a work-in-progress, mostly with placeholder graphics. Riot Games' purpose was to test the mechanics first and develop a technique that aims to fight the peekers advantage.

In February 2020, the first info about Project A surfaced. While it should be taken with a grain of salt, famed esports commentator HenryG said that “ProjectA is the best game I have played since CS:GO.” Esports consultant and insider Rod Breslau also praised the game, saying that “Project Ares will surpass CSGO, Fortnite, Overwatch, Call of Duty, Apex, Rainbow 6, Crossfire, and all other shooters internationally.” Sounds like the kind of statement that one might regret later, but it is Riot Games and Tencent is pouring money into the studio, so there's a chance that this could happen.

Breslau also hinted at the Project A release date, saying that it “[…] will be the biggest FPS/shooter game in the world by 2021.” While this could be a guess, it makes sense that Riot Games is pointing at an official release sometime during 2021. This doesn't mean that we won't get a beta during 2020, since this will be crucial to finetune the game.

By late February 2020, a few leaks seemed convinced that the official name of Project A is Valorant. So, we would be looking toward a Valorant release date instead, but we're yet to confirm if this is indeed the name.

We'll keep following Project A with undisguised excitement and keep you posted of any updates to the release date.
