Development was handed from Koei Tecmo to Motif, a studio that includes industry veterans from Netmarble and Nexon, among others. At this stage, what do we know about the Uncharted Waters Origin release date?

What is the Uncharted Waters Origin Global Release Date?

Uncharted Waters Origin release date

The current Uncharted Waters Origin release date is set for 2021, without any further details. Before that comes a closed beta test, which is scheduled for Q4 2020. This means that the sailing MMORPG is going to miss the 30th anniversary of Uncharted Waters, which takes place during 2020. This was the initial launch date, but it's obvious that the studio needed more time to deliver its vision and a game that lives up to the name of the series.

The best bit about this is that publisher Line Games is shooting for a global release on PC, Android, and iOS. Western players are getting more and more used to waiting for a few years before they can lay their hands on the latest hit MMORPG from Korea – Lost Ark is just one of many -, so the thought of a simultaneous global release is one to be treasured. This press release confirms that much, with the following passage:

“Set to be launched globally on Steam and mobile in coming 2020 […]”

Uncharted Waters Origin is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and is described as the first mobile game to use “deferred rendering”. This technique is familiar to players on PC and consoles, but mobile gamers will get to see it in action for the first time. It consists of dynamically processing shades in real time with more than 100 lights, as you can see in the video below.
