Blade and Soul Unreal Engine 4 remake gets first gameplay trailers

Blade and Soul Unreal Engine 4 remake

NCsoft has just released the first gameplay trailers from the eagerly awaited Blade and Soul Unreal Engine 4 remake. Korea is naturally getting it first, but the North American branch has already confirmed that western players should get this UE4 update in 2020.

If you're ready for the deluge of in-game trailers, they're right at the bottom of this news post. But if you would like a little context, read on.

Blade and Soul Complete is a remake of the original game released in 2012. Much like what happened with Black Desert Online, which has been the subject of a Remastered version, Blade and Soul is getting a graphical revamp. Apparently, NCsoft is also changing the combat mechanics, so we'll see if it's for the best.

The Korean server is entering its second stage of the Unreal Engine 4 upgrade in February 26, 2020. According to MMOCulture, this stage is called Frontier World and brings a new character growth system and battle mechanics into a new server. The existing servers, henceforth known as Live World, are also going to run the Unreal Engine 4 graphical update.

Watching the trailers below, it's clear that there is a visual upgrade to the environment and characters. However, I can't really say if the new look of the classes pleases me – it feels less anime and somewhat more jaded than the previous models. Ultimately, it all comes down to personal taste, so do let us know what you think of it.

The Blade and Soul Unreal Engine 4 remake doesn't have an official release date for North America and Europe, but it would be surprising if it showed up before late 2020. In fact, I can see it slipping into 2021, but let's not jinx it.
