“Impressive” barely describes it. Epic Games' new survival build and shoot game Fortnite – we're always a bit confused when it comes to describe it – has sold over 500,000 digital copies during its first day of Early Access. And we're pretty sure that most, if not all of those who purchased it, are aware that Fortnite is going to be free-to-play in 2018. So, how's that for the tiresome cries o”free-to-play is dead” and “free-to-play games sux!!11”? Make good games, and players will come.
Darren Sugg, Creative Director at Epic Games, has revealed that Fortnite sold this impressive amount, and it's surely way more than that right now. You can check his tweet below, and take your time to see the enthusiastic replies from players who call the game “amazing”, “great game” and “loving it”, among others.
Absolutely humbled by the response to this week's @FortniteGame launch. 500k+ digital pre-order sales and just getting started! Thank YOU.
