New Spacelords character is based on the actress who portrayed Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V

Spacelords Stefanie Joosten

We haven't talked that much about Spacelords since it changed its name and went free-to-play. Previously known as Raiders of the Broken Planet, this muscular third-person shooter failed to convince players and… well, let's be honest, the business model change didn't do much to improve the bleak scenario.

So, it's with a small player base that developer MercurySteam tries a bold move. For Spacelords' next playable character, Sööma, the Spanish studio enlisted the Dutch actress and model Stefanie Joosten. Stefanie lent her voice and likeness to Sööma, but at the risk of sounding overly critical or cynical, I fail to see the resemblance. You can see for yourself by comparing Stefanie Joosten's photo below with the Spacelords Sööma trailer. What do you think?

Perhaps it's a matter of stylization, but I can't shake the feeling that Stefanie Joosten was perfectly captured as Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Despite Quiet's controversial design, you look at the character and you see the actress.

But back to Spacelords. Stefanie had the following to say about the creation of Sööma:

“It was a fascinating endeavor working on a character like Sööma. When MercurySteam approached me with the idea of working on a new Raider for Spacelords, Sööma was just a piece of concept art, and developing that concept into a full character, with her own unique personality and ethos, is a very rewarding experience indeed”.

Sounds fascinating, no doubt about that. But will it change Spacelords fortune? Only time will tell, but I think I know how it will end.
