Tencent becomes largest shareholder of Conan Exiles developer Funcom

Conan Exiles developer Funcom

Tencent has acquired a 29% stake in Conan Exiles developer Funcom. The Chinese giant is now the largest shareholder of the Norwegian studio.

Funcom is known for MMORPGs such as Age of Conan: Unchained and The Secret World: Legends, or its work on the Conan franchise, with games including Conan Exiles and Conan Unconquered. The studio is now working on an open world multiplayer game based on Frank Herbert’s Dune. This is just one of at least three Dune games to be developed following a six-year deal with Legendary Entertainment.

Tencent is the owner of League of Legends' maker Riot Games, and also has a majority stake in Grinding Gear Games, developers of the acclaimed action RPG Path of Exile. Acquiring Conan Exiles developer Funcon is just another step towards world domination… or at least some more games under its umbrella.
