Enlisted is a free-to-play squad-based MMO shooter that delivers realistic battles based on some of the most memorable episodes from World War 2. Developed by Darkflow Software for Gaijin Entertainment, the makers of the equally complex and rich conflict simulator War Thunder, Enlisted is a PC exclusive where the goal is to make players “walk in a real soldier’s boots” and feel the thrill of the battle.

The Enlisted game developers listened to the community and settled for the most popular option, which is free-to-play. The initial plan was to make a premium game where you could purchase a battle or campaign according to your preferences, but given the radical change in design, this may not be the case anymore. Still, you get to test your skills as a foot soldier in famous battles such as the Battle of Berlin, and join forces with squad mates in the the assault on the Reich Chancellery and the Fuhrerbunker. Military vehicles such as tanks, airplanes, and jeeps will be part of the battle as well.

Despite being played both in first-person and third-person perspective, the former is recommended for a better immersion and superior gameplay experience. You can also choose the third-person if you are a new player or prefer to take a more casual approach to the entry-level experience.

With a heavy focus on realism and forfeiting the traditional competitive aspect of games like hero shooters, Enlisted puts you in scenarios where you are a small cog in a big wheel. Tasks such as defending Moscow or capturing a stronghold is only possible if you cooperate with your squad mates – this is not about how may kills or assists you get in a match. The goal is to have battles where roughly around 150 players fight for victory in the battlefield.

With that being said, Enlisted remains a game and will strive to offer a satisfying compromise between realism and gameplay, probably similar to Escape from Tarkov. Unlike the heavy simulation aspect of War Thunder, this game tries to be closer to something like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in terms of match-making, stats, and collection.

The Enlisted release date is yet to be disclosed, but judging by the  open alpha test on May 2020, we would bet on a 2021 release. As soon as it is available, you can check back here for Enlisted guides.
