Guild Wars maker ArenaNet is working on its “next generation of games”

Arenanet new games

No matter how successful your games are, sustaining a studio with only one or two releases can be dangerous, as Carbine Studios have sadly found out. ArenaNet has seen some decent success, but the future is now and new games are essential for any studio.

Hey, if even League of Legends' makers Riot ‘Rolling-in-money' Games are considering it, everyone else has to do the same, right?

ArenaNet was founded in 2000 and only has two games – and a large dose of acclaimed expansions – in its catalog: Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2. So, when they place a job offer for a Lead Server Programmer to help them build “the core infrastructures for our next generation of games”, this seems pretty clear.

There is no doubt that the Washington-based studio is prototyping new games, but the big question is: will ArenaNet stick to the MMORPG or will they join the crowd and design something more ‘player-friendly' such as a… I don't know, a Battle Royale or a MOBA?

Let's hope not.
