News:

Black Gold Online enters open beta
Black Gold Online just entered open beta a few days ago. It’s steampunk versus nature in this game from the makers of Age of Wushu. In this MMORPG, you’ll get to choose between the industrial-loving Isenhorst and the tree hugging Erlandir and enter a fight for the precious energy source Black Gold. During this open beta you’ll be able to participate in community events for a chance to win special in-game items.

Visceral shooter Dizzel is now in open beta
It took a long time but Dizzel is finally available in North America. This is a third person shooter with fatalities just like in Mortal Kombat… sort of. In Dizzel you’ll be able to do some fatality-style executions depending on the character and weapon you’re using at the time. The different game modes include the ability to play as killer mechs or powered-up boss characters, or even engage in four-team firefights. Dizzel looks a bit dated since it’s been around in Korea for a few years but hopefully it will be fun to play.

League of Legends 2 will never happen
Let me break this gently to you all: there won’t be a League of Legends 2. Ever. When you’re done crying, I’ll explain why this isn’t exactly a bad thing. With 27 million users playing on a daily basis, Riot Games isn’t interested in a League of Legends sequel. The plan is to keep releasing patches and significant updates to League of Legends for decades, instead of going for the risky full scale sequel. So the idea is that you’ll be playing League of Legends for a long time and watching as the game improves over the years, both visually and mechanically speaking. While League of Legends is Riot Games’ only game to date, the studio wants to work on new IP and is actively working on prototypes such as the unreleased card game League of Legends: Supremacy.

Ridge Racer Driftopia is shutting down
Ridge Racer Driftopia is about to crash and burn, less than a year after it entered beta on PC and PS3. This free-to-play racing game from Bugbear Entertainment, makers of FlatOut and Ridge Racer Unbounded is going to shut down August 15th. It was heavily criticized for its ruthless microtransaction business model. So remember, kids – don’t go all for the money or it will drive away all the players. Bandai Namco’s next free-to-play game is the 2v2 brawler Rise of Incarnates. Think of it as something of an X-Men fighting game, if you will.

‘Find the Game’ Quiz

If you like a certain kind of food, then we’re pretty sure you can guess which game we’re thinking about in this episode. Apparently, zombies also like that specific dish a lot, or so we’re told. The first one to write the answer in the comments (here or on our YouTube channel) will see his or her name featured in the next Free to Play Unlimited episode.

Most Wanted: Eterlands

Eterlands is a new free-to-play MOBA that is trying to spice up the genre with a few ideas and a focus on realistic environments and physics. Eterlands offers a fully destructible environment where players are capable of destroying walls, towers, trees and even the ground, resulting in permanent changes to the terrain. You can even use this in several ways to take the upper hand – you can destroy a bridge in order to make the walkways impassable, demolish rockwalls to kill your enemies or breaking a dam to flood parts of the map to slow down your enemies. Eterlands even includes a full day and night cycle and weather, including snow and rain. Eterlands is a game where teamplay is essential and where combat is brutal, filled with visual effects and very tactical. Arrows or magic, enemies will react realistically all over the map. Eterlands is planned to be released during 2015 but you can subscribe the official newsletter for updates.
