World of Tanks was called “cheap, Asian stuff” and worse

Wargaming free to play multiplatform MMO

Do you know a little game called World of Tanks? One that has over 35 million registered players and whose tactical gameplay is sometimes compared to Counter-Strike? Well, this title was initially dished by Western publishers for being a free-to-play game.

Wargaming.net CEO Victor Kislyi said during the GDC Europe that many big publishers “were very arrogant” when the studio was trying to pitch the game: “It was described as cheap, Asian stuff. And things worse than that.”

In the last two years Wargaming.net has grown like crazy, from 120 employees to over 1000 across the globe and is still hiring. Take that, you evil Western mega-publishers!

Here's a video of the upcoming World of Tanks update 8.0.
