It’s official: WildStar is going free-to-play!

Wildstar shuts down

The rumor about Wildstar going free-to-play turned out to be true, and those stock recalls were actually a sign of something big, just as it happened with Elder Scrolls Online; NCsoft has just announced that this MMORPG will transition to a free-to-play model this fall. The official site has all the details, but we'll give you a rundown on the most important bits.

Just as is the case with most, if not all F2P games, WildStar will offer “completely optional in-game purchases that cover a wide range of player services, convenience options, and cosmetic offerings.” The game will be fully open to all players, they will be able to ” create characters of every race, class, and path while choosing any tradeskills they like”, and achieve level 50 and path level 30.

WildStar will feature two different accounts: Free and Signature. Signature accounts get everything free players get, as well as the extras noted below. Signatures are pretty much a subscription model, and “require a payment plan offered in 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month increments including C.R.E.D.D., Game Time Card, or recurring payments.” While all updates will be available for Free and Signature players, NCsoft is considering the release of full expansion packs for purchase in the future.

There are more details on the official post, including how to proceed for inactive accounts, or the benefits that free players and box purchasers get. Check them out and enjoy the announcement trailer below.

Some say that NCsoft chose to bet on WildStar instead of Blade & Soul for the western markets, and while it's not as simple as saying that the bet didn't pay off, late 2015 we're now going to get both games, and both free-to-play, as Blade & Soul was re-announced just a few days ago.
