Is Sword Art Online coming true? IBM testing VR SAO MMO

If you're one of the millions of fans who are dying to play a true Sword Art Online MMO, then this may actually happen in the future. And by ‘true', we do mean true – as in a virtual reality MMORPG that could be faithful to the anime. Well, except for the dying part, hopefully.

We don't know much about this Sword Art Online: The Beginning, but we know that IBM is behind the plan and that the technology giant is going to use a a cognitive system called IBM Watson which “uses natural language processing and machine learning to reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data.” If it sounds like a handful, then it's because it probably is and we're not even close to knowing if this is something that can be properly done right now.

There is no confirmation if Sword Art Online: The Beginning is a full game or just a proof of concept, but it is going to be tested in a secret place in Tokyo in March, with just 208 applicants being selected for the test.

It's probably too good to be true and while we're confident something like this will happen in a few years, we won't hold our breath. But what do you think of it?
