Dauntless is a new F2P co-op action RPG inspired by Monster Hunter

Dauntless open beta upcoming

Phoenix Labs is a new studio founded in 2014 and its first title, Dauntless, is created by a team of veterans from BioWare, Riot Games, Capcom and Blizzard, which makes for some very promising talent right there.

Dauntless is a PC exclusive downloadable game planned for a 2017 release and it's a free-to-play online co-op action RPG set in a science-fantasy world where players take on the role of elite warriors known as Slayers who protect humanity by hunting ferocious Behemoths. If this doesn't ring any bell, we'll let you know what it sounds like: Monster Hunter Online. In fact, Capcom's game is described as one of the inspirations for Dauntless, along with Dark Souls and World of Warcraft, and we would add it also sounds a bit like Shadow of the Colossus:

“Phoenix Labs is made up of the most talented and passionate game developers in the world,” said Jesse Houston, co-founder and President at Phoenix Labs. “We make games because we love to play them, and we want to share these experiences with gamers everywhere. We’ve taken inspiration from games like Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and World of Warcraft to create a new, gripping gaming experience.”

Players can hunt the behemoths solo or participate in cooperative combat with up to four players. Success brings rewards and the option to upgrade from hundreds of craftable weapons and armor.
