Crytek’s Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age resurfaces as Hunt: Showdown

Finally, and after quite a few years of complete silence, Crytek's Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age resurfaces and while it's still mostly a teaser for what is surely a full reveal planned for E3 2017, there's something you need to know.

First of all, the name was changed to Hunt: Showdown, dropping the admittedly confusing name of Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age. No, really, everyone was pretty much just calling it Hunt for years, as the subtitle is a bit confusing to say the least. Moving on, there's a new 30-second teaser showing two hunters and the following text:

“When two hunters risk everything
And evil waits unseen
The hunter becomes the hunted”

Not very original, but what we have to stress out from this is the “two hunters” bit. Considering that the original premise mentioned four hunters, the game is most likely revamped and we're guessing it could be something of a two player co-op experience instead of the Left 4 Dead-like shooter that we were expecting. Or it could be some kind of (shivers…) 2v2 MOBA. Geez, let's hope not!

The PC closed beta was originally planned to start late 2014, but we all know how that went. Since then, Crytek has been through a lot of financial trouble, being forced to close five of its studios and canceling development on its other free-to-play game, the MOBA Arena of Fate.

We don't know yet if Hunt: Showdown remains a free-to-play game, or even if it's a PC exclusive or not, but we suggest you sign up at the official website to learn more about it as the info is released. Hopefully this time it won't take three years for new information.
