Jagex cancels RuneScape’s “experiment” DarkScape

Jagex definitely isn't very lucky with its games – well, if you don't count the mega-hit RuneScape, of course. Games such as Transformers Universe were canceled in a hurry, and now it's time for the RuneScape spin-off DarkScape to suffer the same fate. Released in September 2015, DarkScape was this PvP-focused twist on RuneScape that Jagex now calls an “experiment” and a “curiosity […] that has now run its course.” Players are apparently returning to RuneScape or Old School and DarkScape it's shutting down on March 28, 2016.

“Today, there's a small, hardcore community that continues to play DarkScape. Unfortunately, it's just not big enough to warrant ongoing development. The updates made along the way allowed us to experiment with RuneScape's PvP gameplay systems, play around with changes to the game economy, and test out major changes to combat and equipment behaviour.”

There is a reward for those who've logged into DarkScape 20+ times with 10+ hours total playtime between 1st January and this announcement: a month's membership in RuneScape once DarkScape closes. Read the full announcement here.
