Nexon: consoles go free-to-play or go dinosaur

Nexon, the publisher of free to play MMO games MapleStory, Combat Arms, Vindictus and Dungeon Fighter Online, among others, is looking at consoles with uncertainty.

According to Nexon America CEO Daniel Kim, unless console manufactures adapt to the free-to-play market, they will “go the way of the dinosaurs”. He adds that console developers are starting to realize that and that “it’s really hard to beat free-to-play as an offering.”

Daniel Kim may sound like he’s tooting his own horn, but there’s some truth to what he says. He also understands that the existing business relationships may be the real deal breakers, so the studios need to make a “leap of faith” to grow.
