Sony is finally allowing Fortnite cross-play on PlayStation 4

Sony Fortnite ps4 cross-play

What is that, a pig riding a bike? It could very well be, as Sony has just announced that the company is opening up its PlayStation 4 console to cross-platform play. As you may recall, Sony was always against this, being the only major player that wouldn't open up to cross-platform play, without any really convincing excuse. John Kodera, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment shared the news.

Now, with the colossal success of Fortnite Battle Royale, Sony has decided that Fortnite players will be able to participate in an open beta starting today where they can try “cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems.” What this means is that not only PS4 players will be able to play with Fortnite players from other platforms, they will also be able to use their PS4 accounts on other platforms and carry over their progress.

Kodera mentions that this move is a major policy change for Sony, and this will require some throughout planning and testing, with more details to come soon. Fortnite is, obviously, the first of several games that will feature cross-platform play on the PlayStation 4.
