Wargaming Seattle (ex-Gas Powered Games) closes without any release

Wargaming Seattle

Can you believe that it's already been five years since we reported how Wargaming had acquired Gas Powered Games? In case you don't know this studio, it was a reputable developer founded by Chris Taylor and responsible for franchises such as Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander.

After the acquisition in 2013, Gas Powered Games was rebranded Wargaming Seattle and was secretly developing a “big free-to-play MMO under the Wargaming name.” However, we never had any bit of info whatsoever about this game, not even the genre was known. A few days ago, on May 23, 2018 to be more specific, Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi has announced to the studio that it will be closed in two months, as reported by Gamasutra. Apparently, this was announced in a surprise meeting with the team.

A representative of Wargaming had this to say:

“I can confirm that Wargaming will be closing their Redmond development studio as part of the company’s restructuring process. Every member of the 150-strong team that has been working on an unannounced MMO project will be offered a severance package. Wargaming will be assisting the current employees of the Redmond studio, if they decide to apply for open positions in other offices within the company. We would like to express our gratitude and thank everyone on the team for their hard work.”

Best of luck to those involved.
