BattleBeasts teases pet robots, shows raccoon-fueled destruction in new trailers

BattleBeasts survival MMO gameplay

It has been a while since we last talked about BattleBeasts, this super-indie free-to-play survival MMO game. You know, the one featuring an oversized Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy.

In the meantime, it looks like the story of the game was changed, from sentient creatures fighting for survival after escaping from a space prison, to a Planet called Shima that attracts all kinds of scavengers due to its rich resources. You have to explore this planet, collect precious resources, survive and ultimately discover what is turning the artificial intelligence of Shima against all kinds of intelligent animals (foxes, tigers, raccoons and so on).

BattleBeasts is looking more every day like other survival games such as Rust, only with intelligent animals as the stars. There is a building mechanic and destructible walls, as well as flying vehicles in the 8×8 km forest landscape.

The two trailers below will give you a good idea of BattleBeasts – and also show you that it's a bit rough around the edges. Currently the developers are busy working on controlled pets, and the other video will show you several features from this game.

The next alpha test shouldn't take long. However, BattleBeasts feels like the kind of game that could be a diamond in the rough or a mistake – it's up to studio One2 to realize its ambitions or fall short of them.
