Garena acquires Dauntless

Garena has announced the buyout of Dauntless developer Phoenix Labs. The Singaporean publisher, which is owned by Sea Limited, recently closed the deal and managed to get one of the most played action RPGs in the process.

Garena states that it wants to continue supporting the growth of Dauntless, which recently welcomed the Nintendo Switch release. Furthermore, it plans on “exploring new opportunities in global markets and on mobile.” As you may know, Dauntless is in development for mobile devices as well.

Phoenix Labs has been supported by Garena's investment since its early days, so this move makes sense. The publisher has a huge hit in the mobile shooter Free Fire and aims to extend its global grasp, with a focus on mobile gaming and regions such as Asia and Latin America. The Dauntless makers have over 100 developers at the moment, and the existing management team will remain untouched.
