Blade and Soul Unreal Engine 4 update

NCsoft has confirmed that the Blade and Soul Unreal Engine 4 update is coming west next year. This follows on the exciting news revealing a December release for Blade and Soul Complete in Korea, which came with a fantastic teaser.

Blade & Soul Senior Producer Nico Coutant shed some light on this release, revealing interesting details about it. He starts by saying that the Blade and Soul Unreal Engine 4 update that we saw a few days ago is called Blade & Soul: Complete, as you know by now.

In Korea, that update will introduce a separate server called Frontier World, which is intended to show off the capabilities of Unreal Engine 4, focusing on the open world PvP and RvR combat. This server is planned to launch this December in Korea, but it won't make it to the west.

However, the Unreal Engine 4 update is indeed coming to North America, as Coutant says: “it means we’re closer to getting the Unreal Engine 4 for live servers.” He is expecting the update to roll out in the west in 2020, without further details. NCsoft will take a few months “to work through the kinks” before we can lay our hands – and eyes – on this update.

Until then, Blade & Soul players in the west will get a major update in December, but no details were revealed about it. With the game about to celebrate its 4th anniversary, there are a few surprises in store that will be shared in the next producer's letter, including info on the direction of the game, whatever that means.

Blade and Soul isn't the first MMORPG to undergo a visual update, but this remains as a very uncommon practice. Black Desert Remastered did it a while ago, and many World of Warcraft players have been clamoring for years for a visual update, but there is none in sight – at least, there's the upcoming WoW Shadowrealms expansion coming in 2020.
