Epic Games’ Paragon revealed: 3rd person MOBA with card elements

Paragon shutting down

If the names Twinblast, Dekker, Steel, Sparrow and Grux mean anything to you, then you're probably wondering what Paragon is all about. The Epic Games title was just revealed thanks to the first gameplay trailer and we now know exactly what it looks like. Paragon is a third-person 5v5 MOBA coming in 2016 for PC and PlayStation 4 featuring slick looking heroes and cards to customize their unique abilities. This is the second new shooter that uses cards to customize abilities, the other one being Hi-Rez Studios' Paladins: Champions of the Realm.

Paragon is going to enter testing in January 2016, followed by paid Early Access in Spring, and Open Beta in Summer 2016. While this doesn't reveal the business model, having an open beta could be pointing to free-to-play, also supported by the fact that two other upcoming games from Epic Games are going to be free: Fortnite and Unreal Tournament. However, this is just a hunch and the game could turn out to be buy-to-play, same as Blizzard's Overwatch.

We're expecting to see the classic MOBA gameplay with a new twist, probably something closer to SMITE but way more action-packed. There will be three lanes, jungles, minions, towers and cores, as the official info mentions, so all the main features should be covered. The stunning world of Agora is created using Unreal Engine 4 and Paragon isn't shy about using terrain elevations to provide different approaches to combat – learn the map wisely so you know where are the vantage points and where you could be at disadvantage.

Here's the stylish announcement trailer as well as the first gameplay trailer. Sign up at Paragon's official website to see more about the game soon.
