EVE Online’s FPS spin-off Project Nova is centered around “team tactics”

EVE Online's FPS spin-off Project Nova

CCP Games has released more info on its EVE Online spin-off Project Nova during the EVE Online convention. Kotaku has just lifted the lid and spoke in some detail about this first-person shooter set in the EVE universe.

Project Nova's gameplay is said to be centered around “team tactics”, where players must have a plan, stick to it and adapt when necessary. This isn't planned to be a run and gun game, said Project Nova’s lead designer Paul Wright. The alpha gameplay that you can see below doesn't seem particularly inspired, with the same going for the visuals as well – Project Nova looks like Unreal Tournament or any other bland sci-fi first-person shooter. Hopefully this is a staple of this map in particular and other stations will feature more diverse, more appealing visuals.

The default PvP mode in Project Nova revolves around each team of 16 players trying to deliver their own payload across the map. This is where tactical decisions come in, with some players pushing forward and others attacking their enemies. It's nothing that we haven't seen before in other multiplayer shooters.

I don't want to sound overly pessimistic, but after the cancelation of Dust 514 and the long gestation period of this shooter, I was expecting something more. Something with an epic scale to it, perhaps more in line with what PlanetSide 2 offers. We'll have to wait and see.
