What, already? Master X Master is shutting down on January 31

Master X Master is shutting down

Wow, this is sad. Master X Master, one of the coolest games to release in 2017 (in June 21, to be precise), is going to shut down in a couple of months.

NCsoft has just shared the news with all players in this announcement. Master X Master's final day is going to be January 31, 2018. The publisher says that it explored several options, but none of them were sustainable business-wise.

MXM tried to bring new ideas to the MOBA genre, including a tag team system and a nice co-op campaign, but it wasn't enough to save it.

And so, the plan for Master X Master until the servers close is the following:

• All players will receive 500,000 X-Coin to unlock all content
• The community-developed Lua skin will be made available to all players for 1 X-Coin
• Real money purchases on the MXM Store will be permanently disabled
• All game modes will be turned on, and available at all times
• Refunds in full on purchases made between Aug. 30 and Nov. 16. This will happen automatically within the next 7-14 days, and will be refunded via the same method the purchase was made, if possible.

We are sad to see Master X Master go, but as NCsoft says, “it wasn’t enough to take on the established juggernauts.” In our opinion, nothing is going to beat said juggernauts for many years to come, and if NCsoft and MXM themselves failed to make a dent on them, we truly don't know what will. With characters from Blade & Soul, Lineage, Guild Wars 2, Aion and more, this was a great line-up. Alas, it wasn't enough.
