New Albion Online video highlights the Labourers

Sandbox Interactive has released a new Albion Online video showing another one of its big features: Labourers. These fine men and women are hirable resource gatherers and will be there to tend to your requests, if you treat them nicely and let them hang around in your home or in a guild hall.

To get them to work you'll need to fill in a journal related to their profession. For example, if you want the labourer to cut wood you have to go woodcutting and then give the journal with the notes back to the labourer. It's some sort of knowledge system for this NPC. Of course, he won't bring as many resources as you would, but since you've been busy hacking and slashing your way around, this is a nice little useful extra, as pretty much everything in the world of Albion Online requires resources.

One of the interesting things with labourers is that if they don't get enough sleep, don't have a comfy bed or a spot at the table, the happiness rating drops and they just won't do any more work. Try that in real life with your boss and see just how it goes: “hey boss, I'm not in the mood for working today, I'm sleepy and a bit sad about stuff.”

A happy labourer will become more productive but also more demanding, requesting better furniture. Hope they have good taste, since in the end it's still your house.

Albion Online enters closed beta on November 23, 2015 and is shaping up to be one of the best sandbox MMORPGs ever. We hope it fulfills its potential.
