PlanetSide Arena announced, massive sci-fi arena shooter isn’t F2P

PlanetSide Arena announced

That leak that was discovered a few days ago turned out to be true, as Daybreak Game Company just announced PlanetSide Arena. As it turns out, PlanetSide Arena is indeed a Battle Royale game, but not just that. It is described as a “massive-scale multiplayer sci-fi shooter” with a “robust class system” and “seasonal progression”, and is capable of supporting up to 1,000 players per match.

The release on Steam for Windows PC is planned for January 29, 2019, and it will cost $29.99 USD at launch, but you can grab one of two packages before that: the Sanctuary Assault Edition ($19.99 USD) and the Legendary Arena Edition ($39.99 USD).

Since PlanetSide Arena won't be free-to-play, this will be the first and only time that we'll cover the game here.

PlanetSide Arena will launch with three game modes. One of them is the mandatory Battle Royale mode (solos and teams of three players) with the other being Massive Clash, with battles of 250 vs 250 players. Further down the line we'll see Capture the Flag, Team Death Match, Kill Count, Doubles, Search and Destroy, and Global Conquest. Launch classes include Assault, Engineer, and Medic.

I can't say that I'm thrilled at the prospect of playing PlanetSide Arena. Sadly, it feels like a rush job trying to cash in on the Battle Royale popularity and we've seen how that has worked before, right? The not-so-low price tag isn't helping either, but feel free to give it a go and let us know how it plays.

Otherwise, we'll wait until it goes free-to-play. Eventually.
