So, eh, lolies. What the fuck? Just how did this weird trend started and why are lolies becoming so popular in Eastern MMORPGs, you know, games that we’ll all eventually end up playing, such as TERA Rising, Scarlet Blade or Blade & Soul… I mean, scratch that, we’ll never actually see a Western release of Blade & Soul.
Anyway, what is a loli? A loli could be described as a barely clothed, sexualized woman that looks like a little girl. We’re not usually enlightened about their age in most games, so we could also say that they are adults in kid bodies. Or not, we can’t say for sure. We do, however, find this class a little bit… disturbing, don’t you agree?
We’re not pretending to be saints. We do like our stunning female characters but there’s just something out of place with the loli characters, like the Lyn in Blade and Soul or the Elin in Tera. The new Korean action MMORPG Asker: The Light Swallowers, formerly known as Project Black Sheep, also includes a loli class, for somewhat reason.
There doesn’t seem to be an agreement on the role of a loli in an MMORPG. While in Scarlet Blade the preferred weapon is a pair of pistols (and Scarlet Blade is known for featuring BIG guns), in Tera the Elin goes the God of War way, using dual chainblades to wreak havoc. So while speed is a thing, we don’t see them wielding huge, powerful weapons. Sure, it’s up to each dev to choose whatever they want, after all it’s their game, but we see this class as the most fragile of them all and certainly not suited for heavy combat. Perhaps a supporting role would be the best for the class. By the way, as far as Western Tera goes, the addition of the Elins apparently ruined the game for many players. So lolies couldn’t be more divisive than that.
Anyway, this isn’t the point of our rant. We’re just a bit baffled about the popularity of the loli character class, one that is pretty divisive and works in the love it or hate it kind of way. That’s something that just doesn’t seem right and while we don’t want to call it pedo-bait, the thought and sight of seeing a loli running around in underwear is just that little bit disturbing.
Now, we’ve read some stuff about this topic and we spotted a bit of confusion in regards to what a loli truly is. We’ve seen some users referencing Ellie from The Last of Us and Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite as lolies, something that is just… What the hell are you thinking? Ellie is a teenage girl and regular teenage girls are just that, they couldn’t be farther from lolis. Remember that a loli in an MMO is a sexualized woman who looks like a child and is probably underage, even if not clearly stated in the game. So, Ellie? No. Ashley Graham from Resident Evil 4? Not a chance. The Lyn race from Blade and Soul? There, now you’re getting the hang of it!
So yeah. Lolies? We don’t think so. They just don’t seem to fit in most MMO games, free or not. What would it look like to have a bunch of lolis running around in the world of Black Desert Online? Or seeing them frolicking around in EverQuest Next? God, let’s hope not!
So here’s hoping that some better, more compelling and less pedo-funny classes will eventually be created in the coming months.
PS: If you celebrate your lolis and can’t play with any other race, then hey, screw it, let’s all get up and dance!
