FreeMMOStation Free MMO Game Awards 2014~2015 (Part 1)

Welcome to FreeMMOStation’s Free MMO Game Awards 2014-2015! This time it's YOU who will choose the best free MMO games that you've played during 2014, as well as the most anticipated MMOs – and there are a lot of awesome games in development, 2015 is going to be a very exciting year!

If there's a game that you feel should be a part of any category, then leave the name in the comments along with the reason why you think it should be included. Please note that with all the early access, closed betas, open betas, soft launches and everything else, we're including some games that we've played but may not be already available for the general public, such as Blade & Soul or Black Desert Online.

So now it's time for you to enjoy, make your pick and give the best games the credit that they truly deserve!

BEST MMORPG

We can say for sure that 2014 wasn't the best year as far as MMORPGs are concerned. We did, however, have a bunch of pretty interesting releases, from the martial arts game Swordsman to the build'em up Landmark (although it's just early access). Oh, and there's the controversial ArcheAge, a game with so much potential that it almost managed to ruin itself with a chaotic launch. And then we decided to add some older but quality-driven games such as Neverwinter, Tera Rising, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Rift, Vindictus, Aion, Path of Exile and Dragon Nest. Great stuff all-round, but which one is your favorite?

BEST SHOOTER

We had a few new releases this year such as F.E.A.R. Online and Star Conflict, but those are up against some really tough competition. It's hard to ignore games such as the timeless Team Fortress 2, the ‘ninjas in space' Warframe, or the blockbuster that is World of Tanks. But there are a few more to try, including one of the few true MMOFPSs ever: PlanetSide 2. Yes, because most games in this list are online multiplayer shooters, but what is really an MMO? Well, PlanetSide 2 is. Anyway, it's time to vote on your favorite.

BEST MOBA

The heat is on in the MOBA genre – while League of Legends managed to reign supreme for a few years, the competition is now fierce with Valve's Dota 2, Hi-Rez Studios' SMITE and Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm. But while these can be considered the heavyweights of the genre, there are other multiplayer online battle arena games with plenty of quality out there. For example, Infinite Crisis is great for those looking for a MOBA with superheroes, while Strife is the second entry in the genre from the talented folks that made Heroes of Newerth. In which arena do you like to show your skills?

BEST CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION

This year, instead of beating around the bush and pretending that games such as Black Desert Online aren't actually happening, we decided to include them, even if they're not yet available to the general public or released in the West. We can guarantee you one thing for sure: we've tried all the games from this list, so we know just how good their character customization is. Many of you are still waiting – and perhaps it's best not to hold your breath – for Blade & Soul and Phantasy Star Online 2, two games that have in-depth character creation systems, but competition is ruthless from the likes of Aion or APB: Reloaded. Make your pick.

BEST FREE-TO-PLAY MODEL

Ah, free-to-play can be such a deceiving label. You should know by now that nearly no game is truly free-to-play, instead making you hit paywalls and pushing you to the cash shop to spend your hard-earned cash. But some games actually play it fair and even offer you quality, making you feel all good inside and wanting to reward the devs; games like Dota 2, SMITEPath of Exile or Team Fortress 2 are the ones that we consider truly free-to-play. Not many, we know, so give us your suggestions in the comments for more games that don't try to rip you off.

BEST FREE MMO PUBLISHER

So many publishers, so many games to choose from. Also, so many “when I heard it's from [insert publisher here], I lost all interest” comments. It's true that some studios are trying just a little bit too hard to reach into our wallets, but on the other hand, some of them are actually listening to players and doing their best to improve the games and regularly release new and interesting content. This is a tough choice, but do let us know which publisher do you consider as the most worthy of your trust and money.
